A finish isn't chosen for looks alone: it's chosen for what the floor has to take. Here's how we actually decide.
- Garage
- Flake
- Hot tires, oil, salt and winter calcium. Flakes sealed with polyaspartic stay non-slip even when the car pulls in soaked, and the texture forgives small imperfections in the concrete.
- Basement and living space
- Metallic
- Nobody looks at a basement floor thinking about how tough it is: they look at it because it's beautiful. Metallic is hand-poured, seamless, waterproof, and it transforms the whole room.
- Workshop, warehouse, commercial kitchen
- Quartz
- Forklifts, pallets, chemicals, hose-downs. The double quartz bed is the densest surface we install, and it stays non-slip where sanitation standards demand it.
- Balcony, steps, outdoor entryway
- Flake or quartz
- Freeze-thaw is what kills outdoor coatings in Quebec. Both systems take the cycle and stay safe in the rain. The choice comes down to the look.
What decides how long it lasts isn't the finish.
An epoxy floor that peels, blisters or lifts after one winter is almost always the same story: the slab was never prepped. The resin has nothing to grip, and it eventually comes up in sheets.
That's why we diamond-grind the concrete before pouring, whatever finish you pick. Grinding opens the pores, strips the laitance and any old sealer, and gives the epoxy a real mechanical bond. We repair the cracks, we check the slab for moisture, and only then do we start.
It's the step nobody ever sees in a photo, and it's the one that explains why we back our work for 10 years.
