Boischatel is the gateway to the Côte-de-Beaupré, just past Beauport, on the plateau east of Montmorency Falls. Residential developments went up fast there, with many newer homes and double garages. In winter, salt from Route 138 and the Félix-Leclerc highway ends up under the cars, and so in the garage.

The area

A properly sealed flake finish keeps salt on the surface. In the spring, the garage cleans up with a hose and a squeegee, and the concrete stays unmarked. The photo shows flakes being spread on a covered porch: the same method works indoors and out. Before pouring, we make sure a newer home's slab has finished drying.

For entryways, porches and patios, the logic is the same as elsewhere on the Côte-de-Beaupré: a non-slip, sealed finish built for freeze-thaw. Boischatel sits halfway between our Québec City area and our Beaupré area, and we cover all of it.
